When it comes to air pollution, we can all do our part to improve air quality and protect public health. In a state with some of the worst air pollution in the United States, it is imperative that we do! California Clean Air Day is built on the idea that shared experiences unite people to action to improve our community health. By joining together for a unified day of action we can create new habits to clear the air for all members of California’s diverse communities. Be a part of a community of pledgers that included more than 650,000 Californians in 2019. Take the pledge to choose from a menu of items that make a big difference. Choose from each of our three main categories (Switching Things Out, Planting Something, and Reducing Vehicle) to triple your impact! You can plant a tree, for example, or try out public transit or biking for the day.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION FACTS

In 2018, Americans took nearly 10 billion trips on public transportation.

33 million times each weekday, people board public transportation.

Public transportation serves 400 boarding a second every day in the United States.

During rush hour, a bus of seated passengers carries more people than a one block long traffic jam.

Since 1995, public transportation ridership has increased by 27%—a growth rate higher than the 23% increase in U.S. population.
