This month, the USC Culture Journey is partnering with civic groups at USC to continue the Open Communication Series. In our polarized society, we don’t have to look far to find examples where disagreement leads to bullying, incivility, and disengagement. To learn how our Unifying Value of ‘Open Communication’ can be fully lived out in our community, we’ve invited experts in the fields of psychology and political science to share about open discourse, civility, and resilience. Before we highlight those events, I want to invite you to participate in another campus-wide opportunity: the Inclusive Learning Environment Initiative.

Provost Zukoski is chairing this special effort to foster belonging and inclusivity in USC’s classrooms. The goal is to produce a set of guiding principles and concrete recommendations for enhancing inclusive learning environments at USC. Community input is invaluable as part of this process, and we invite you to become involved by attending one of numerous sessions beginning in early March [register here].

Additionally, we encourage you to attend our upcoming webinar series events, outlined below. Please share this information with your network. The more voices that participate, the richer the conversations will be.

  • Wednesday, March 9, 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM (PST): Open Communication Series: Civil Discourse with Bob Shrum and Mike Murphy [register here]
  • Thursday, March 24, 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM (PST): How to Have Fearlessly Curious Conversations in Dangerously Divided Times [register here]
