Each member of the Staff Assembly is assigned to one standing committee, addressing specific issues to help improve the work environment, benefits, and policies pertaining to USC staff. Click on the committee names below to see the current chairs, members, strategic goals, and updates.
The Communications Committee is responsible for maintaining our web presence on the official Staff Assembly website and social media channels; retaining Staff Assembly history; curating and storing photography for Staff Assembly; and publicizing all Staff Assembly events. The Communications Committee works very closely with USC Employee Engagement and Communications.
The Compensation and Benefits Committee is responsible for overseeing the policies and programs related to current benefits, retirement plans and compensation. The committee reports staff concerns regarding university staff compensation changes and benefit issues to Administration. They also represent Staff Assembly at the University’s Employment Benefits Advisory Committee (EBAC) meetings where they offer input on any proposed benefit changes and at the Staff Retirement Association (SRA) meetings where retirement benefits and activities are discussed.
The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee will promote and encourages inclusivity and diversity throughout campus in order to make all members of the USC community feel welcome, safe, and validated. The committee will track/support university initiatives and collaborate on programs that directly impact staff. The committee will identify top priorities for Staff Assembly with a focus on actions that will lead to real change.
The Environment & Safety Committee is responsible for monitoring the safety and security of the university working environments at the Health Sciences, University Park, and auxiliary campuses. The committee reviews and reports on sustainability programs and investigates disaster preparedness on all campus locations, and works with the USC Sustainability and USC Emergency Response representatives.
The Rights and Responsibilities Committee reviews, advocates, and makes recommendations for issues, practices, and policies that affect staff, particularly around the topics of discrimination, workplace/sexual harassment, staff grievances, training/development, and more. The committee facilitates and promotes the professional and meaningful involvement of staff as key contributors to enhance the mission and goals of the university.
The Rules and Elections Committee is responsible for reviewing and recommending changes to the Constitution, By-laws, and Standards Operating Procedures of the Staff Assembly. It conducts the nomination and elections process as well as the election of officers. The committee monitors the Assembly’s attendance, maintains the official membership list, and is responsible for filling vacant seats.
The Scholarship and Awards Committee administers the USC Staff Assembly Scholarships and seeks to recognize the many achievements of USC staff. Recipients of the Staff Monthly Recognition Award shall be selected by the members of the Scholarship and Awards Committee.
The Staff Engagement & Appreciation Committee seeks to bring greater awareness to Staff Assembly by producing programs that promote wellbeing and appreciate all staff for their contributions to the USC community. The committee executes all events during Staff Appreciation Week and Engagement Week. Previous efforts have included creating virtual programs such as workshops and coffee chats, securing discounts and raffle items with local businesses, and organizing ice cream socials.
The Transportation Committee is responsible for monitoring staff concerns regarding parking and transportation issues. These include the utilization of facilities, carpool, vanpool, other ridesharing programs, and the construction of parking facilities on both the Health Sciences and University Park campuses. Members of the committee also participate in USC Transportation Services’ Citation Review Board.
Committee Work: Outside of Staff Assembly
USC Staff Assembly is actively engaging in committee work (outside of and in addition to the standing committees within the Staff Assembly) focused on social justice and diversity, equity, and inclusive initiatives relative to the staff experience. Staff, students, and faculty can report incidents of bias and discrimination via the USC Office of Equity, Equal Opportunity, and Title IX. https://eeotix.usc.edu/report/ There are additional Staff support services through the Center for Work and Family Life.
